When we hear about foods that come without BPAs in their containers, we get all excited. “Ooh, it’s BPA-free!” we say, and add it to the list of things we want to buy, if we can afford things without BPA in them. But in all honesty, should we not be able to buy BPA-free stuff without even thinking about it? Shouldn’t anything that’s going into our bodies be legally mandated to be free of chemicals that may be linked to cancer, hormonal disruption, and other crap?
Studies show that most human bodies do contain BPA—but that when we eliminate foods that come in BPA containers, we can reduce the amount of BPA in our systems by as much as 60 percent. So at least half of the chemical—or more than half of it, really—present in our bodies is due to the food manufacturers that pump it into us.
If you are concerned about the amounts of BPA in the foods that you buy, please take a moment and write to the major foods manufacturers here. Ask them if they are doing anything to get rid of the BPA in their containers and let them know that you want to buy products that are BPA-free.
